Chapter 3 Question 1

The whole saying “Thinking Outside the Box” was a perfect title for this reading. Ride is the definition of what a critical thinker is.  Being able to double-major in two very different subjects is impressive alone. Her ability and love for solving problems is what makes critical thinking possible. Looking back at the characteristics of a good critical thinker; she defines it. She is able to analyze and handle NASA’s first and second shuttle. Being one of the 25 out of 8000 applicants is quite impressive. She defines what a good communicator is supposed to be. She spoke for the United Nations and held a report for NASA. She is able to do research, since working for NASA requires loads of research.  On top of all that she has done, she was still able to write several children’s books. Overall, critical thinking requires a lot and she is the definition of what a critical thinker should be.

  1. I agree with everything that you say. Ride is the definition of a critical thinker, she can pretty much fit in all of the categories of a critical thinker in chapter 1. Being picked out of 8,000 people is such an accomplishment. Not only was she the only woman, but she was the youngest one on the NASA team at the time. Such an inspiration this woman is. Also, yes, the children's books also shows that she has a passion for helping the youth succeed in the future. Knowing that she cares for the youth makes her even more credible and even more of a saint. I say good for her, and I would like to meet her one day.

  2. I completely agree with you. Ride does portray the correct definition of being a critical thinker. Chapter one lists out all the qualities of a critical thinker and Sally Ride does have all of those qualities. Ride is described as being a composed person and having the ability to figure things out quickly. She also has excellent communication skills and is a great speaker and a writer. Like you said critical thinking does require a lot and she is the perfect definition of what a critical thinker should be like. She demonstrates all of the characteristics of a skulled critical thinker.

  3. I agree with how you evaluated her as a good critical thinker. We can see how good she is at it from her many accomplishments. Her friends described her as someone who seems to think first and consider everything before acting. I honestly have never heard her of until this reading but I admire her already. She really has it in her because ever since she was a child she already loved to solve problems. And how often does that happen? I quite frankly wish I had better communication and critical thinking skills because they just both seem to make life in general happier and easier.

  4. I also agree with what you said about Ride and how great of a critical thinker she is. You brought good points of how she was a great critical thinker, such as being a double major and her having the ability to solve problems. Ride, being the first woman astronaut in space is, in itself quite impressive, and her skill of communication was helpful in her career. I think it is very important to have communication skills in order to achieve your goals, I would love to learn from her to improve my critical thinking and communication skills. Overall, I believe she is a great example of what a critical thinker should be.
